Hi everyone,

I'm brand new here, and I'm glad to have found this forum.

I've lived in Japan for about 7 years now, and you can't escape karaoke here.  I head to a karaoke box two or three times per month, and always bring my laptop full of MP3+Gs, along with my Roland UA-100 outboard sound unit, and my own microphone.  It's easy to plug my gear into the TV and audio unit in the rooms, and it's great not having to wait for my turn to sing again!

The setup works quite well for me.  The sounds quality is quite good; with the S-video out on my laptop, I've got two screens; I can bring thousands of songs; I can record myself, and the UA-100 lets me add things like reverb and compression.   I can also use the room mics if need be.  The only downside is that it's a bit tedious lugging all of the stuff around, considering all of the necessary cables.

I've been looking into figuring out a more portable system, but it's been difficult.  Some things I've considered:

* A karaoke-enabled DVD player, but it would have to play mp3+gs.  Anybody know of any?  If a player plays mp3s and cd+gs, will it play mp3+gs as well?  I found a Lite-On DVD recorder that may play mp3+gs, but I'm not quite sure.

* A CAVS super cd+g player.  It's a bit of a pain to make your own, though, isn't it?

* An iPod-style media player.  Has anyone gotten something like this to play mp3+gs?

* A teeny tiny laptop, or tablet PC.  It would need an S-video or composite video out.

My budget is about $150-200, but I'd like to keep it around $100, if possible.  Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

You already have a simple setup.
You are probably using the minimum amount of cables.
Dosent get much simpler...

If they come up with anything better,
you in Japan will hear about it before we do.
