One more Idea....

For those who want the change:  :biggrinthumb:

Who is willing to make a donation to help pay for it?

If the owners take this serious then maybe they can tell us how much it will cost to make the new changes and there for take us more serious....If we are willing to help pay for it by making a donation. :)

I would be willing to donate $50 dollars to the cause....anyone else???

Just my  :2cents:   :D

I am not sure how easy it would be for ADMIN to implement a blacked out space,  but if it is possible..... and as long as the comment CAN NOT BE READ (until the comment is approved), I think that's a really good idea, Vicki!!

As for running for president ... ummmmmmmm, NO thanks.  While I am totally into politics, I don't have the strength to endure the "closet digging" that would occur.   I like to keep my personal life personal ....

However, I will consider running for president of the "I'M GONNA MISS THE EDIT FEATURE" club.    :drums:

And Kelley   .... I know you feel frustrated, because ADMIN didn't follow through when you did the right thing and went to them with your issues ..... but don't give up the faith.  There is power with numbers .... and it sure seems like most of us want some type of change.

EDIT:::::  (hey, Im gonna use it while I still can....LOL)

And Tonya,  EVERYONE should express their opinions here!  That is why the thread was created.  EXPRESS all you like, hun!!!   :hi5:

Jeez Cindy I would definately vote for ya...between you and Luly lie the voice of logic and level headedness.
I know bout these things...just cos I am a hot head doesnt mean I cant acknowlege and admire those traits in others
Kelley has been treated somewhat shoddily in the face of some pretty hideous insults in the past. I cant blame her for being somewhat upset now, after all, there is no way for anyone that didnt witness those insults to understand her level of distress, because admin chose to pull the thread leaving the nasty person looking cleaner than they have a right to

Maybe I'm not understanding....but are you saying, supposing the comment is not one you would normally approve, that it would be in a different shade but yet visible?  The whole idea is to prevent the public eye from viewing the nastiness (thereby preventing MORE nastiness).  Is it not?

True but I kinda agree with Vicki on this one "No hon the whole idea is to retain the higher moral ground. by not pressing accept you are stating that the comment is unacceptable. that should be all that is necessary. I think if you drive the nastyness underground it will still continue but those that perpetrate it will simply deny and state that the person who says they received it is making it up. If the comment was blanked out enough only those with a seperate agenda would bother to read them anyway "    right now.. Im still mulling it over though

Sorry, I didn't read the entire thread - will try tht later. Currently I have been extremely busy.

Dropped in to read PMs and saw this post.

All three ideas sound terrific - however coding these to work is a totally different item. If someone wishes to volunteer - I certainly would welcome their feedback and input. Must have a working knowledge of JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL database, as well as HTML (of course)

Okay Popping out again...

Ok, I got the food in the oven...so I can stay here a little ....

Vicki, what I didn't read personally was told to me.  Just like a pancake has two sides, so does every story.  I am not choosing sides.  I am keeping my nose out of this.  I appreciate the parties involved and I would like to remain on friendly terms with them.  Bottom line, it was a quarrel that should have been resolved between the original parties and not brought out to affect the entire site.  I have been there, done that and learned a valuable lesson from it.

I don't think simply changing the coloring of a comment to signal that you are not approving it is the answer.  Rather, you're calling attention to it, and that is counter productive to what this thread and poll is about.  If you are worried about "underground" goings on, why then just BLOCK their butt! Be DONE with them! Finito!

I agree with Nathan.  Determined people will mess up any system no matter how many times you tweak it.  Things are fine the way they are.

I HAVE to disagree...if you all will read the WHOLE thread of Admin : My Wish For Singers Showcase you will KNOW that I TRIED to settle with a pm . All I got was a nasty pm back telling me how much of a "hit or miss" singer I was. Very uncalled for .... Thats when I decided to make the thread...Had he just said Sorry Kelley , My imagination gets the better of me sometimes,if you are not the one doing these things please accept my apology it would have been squashed RIGHT THEN RIGHT THERE. BUT...AS WE ALL KNOW...IT DIDNT GO THAT WAY. Everyone knows the first thread I started had no names until the constant taunting & goading individual came around & made it painfully obvious who it was.
Hate to bring up the past garbage but I DID try to make things right...not my fault things got this ugly..I dont LIKE fighting...but I will if I have to. As most people will.

Using the edit button here LOL   Thanks Luly for trying to help I DO respect your opinions...youre good people !!

Firstly, let me say that I was new to this, or any other forum until yesterday, so let me apologies in advance for any breaches of protocol that I may commit here.
I certainly agree that the comment system needs an overhaul of some sort. It is being abused by a small minority, mainly in the form of personal attacks on other members. Usually these attacks take the form of innuendos rather than directly naming that person, but close enough a description that there can be no doubt who the commenter is talking about. These are the attacks that escalate into the unpleasantness that I have seen since I joined. If this were not bad enough, when taken to task by the commentee, the comment gets changed and the commenter adopts a “who meeee???” stance, when it all hits the fan. There is a certain person on here that shall remain nameless that has developed this form of commenting into what can only be described as an art form. By the time he has finished changing his comments, the commentee then looks like they are the villain of the peace. I have seen this time and time again on here. As far as I can see the only way to stop this is to level the playing field and make comments none editable in the same way that replies are. Perhaps limiting the amount of space allotted to match replies would also help. If people had less space to comment they would have to stick to the music side of things.
As for Critiques, a book could be written on the subject. Apart from technical issues such as bad pitching and not paying attention to timing in relation to the chord sequence, there are very few hard and fast rules within the Genre’s of music that most of us here produce. In classical music you are expected to sing it exactly the way it is written with very little latitude for interpretation. Not so in popular music. You sing it how you damn well want to, its yours to interpret how you wish and if X,Y,or Z tells you it should be sung differently , then tell them to get stuffed. I have seen critiques saying things like “you should have carried your vibrato on a bit longer on that note”. If the person singing had wanted to sing it that way, he would have done so. We don’t want to become singing clones of a commenter. It’s people with individual styles that get anywhere in the music industry, not the clones. If someone does not like my version of a song, they are more than welcome to tell me just that. I wont get upset, but I will if they try and tell me how I should have sung it . OK so I babbled on about this a bit, but frankly I cannot see what could be done to change the system other than appeal to common sense and decency. We are all here for the same reason, and being put down is not one of them.
As far as removing subs of questionable content, Provided they are not racialist in content, and that they are clearly labeled ADULT CONTENT where appropriate, so that the less broadminded or younger among us can avoid them, then lets all have a bloody good laugh. Anyway, who is qualified to say what is right or what is wrong, in this. If someone is easily offended then don’t listen. I will say however, that I have seen  much double standards on here, with a certain person criticizing a sexual innuendo, yet applauding a submission that was quite crude, but that which was submitted by a buddy…so the short answer is …you tell me !!!

Sorry if this was lengthy, and probably most of it was irrelevant to this thread, but I thought I’d have my say before I Go…I do sincerely applaud the efforts of people trying to improve this site, and hope that you achieve this…cheers Don

Good Luck on the volunteer Phil. Id much rather pay a higher membership fee for yall to hire someone for the job. I really have no problem with that at all to have peace in this place.

I appreciate all you've written Don, and find it very relevant.

You've made good and valid points .. and supported why you feel the way you do.  I think removing the comment box after a comment has been submitted at the SS ..... will most surely STOP what you have referenced in your post about people changing comments, thereby making others look and or feel foolish.  Once the button is pushed, the comment option should no longer be available.... as occurs with replies.

As for the ADULT CONTENT .. I too feel if something is labeled that way ... then those who choose to listen can do so ..... and those who don't simply won't.  Unfortunately.... not everyone indicates ADULT CONTENT ..... and the board is not exclusive to 18+ membership.  I have listened to children and teenagers over at the SS .... and I think that is why songs with Adult Content are discouraged.  I am not a supporter of "censoring" ..... but in this case I guess I can see how ADMIN feel about this issue.

As for your feelings about critques ... many feel as you do ... and sub Just For Fun.  They aren't interested in hearing how others feel they should have sung... they just want to enjoy themselves .... and share music and good times.

I'm glad you voiced your feelings.  I hope more will do the same!

:)

I have been scanning through this thread and you all have some really good suggestions and I can see all sides of this so I would only add that the numbers be removed in the ranking..When I was a newbie here and was open for ranking, my first score was about an 8.3 and I was elated because I looked at what that meant and it signified very good.  Now lately if someone even gets a 9  here in the past year, they are inflamed.. For example if one walks up to you after a live performance and says ' hey very good'  a logical person would take it well but somehow a number attached just adds extra stigma.. Remember in the 70's there was a fad where people's looks were rated by a number?...It's just a bone of contingency in my opinion.
